Setting up a social area in Reading
I needed a bespoke home bar after hosting a gathering where we lacked space. I decided to search near Reading Station.
I found the site while scrolling and emailed photos. Central Bedroom and Kitchens responded with a price that felt fair for the work.
The journey of planning this project was honestly quite detailed. I spent several days thinking on the configuration of the room before ever picking up the device. My living area has constantly felt slightly incomplete, and owning a dedicated zone for drinks felt like the perfect fix to that issue. I remember sitting in my kitchen staring at a messy countertop filled with glassware and realising that everything had to shift. The initial interaction with the staff was very simple, which provided me assurance. We discussed different aesthetics, from modern minimalist looks to something classic and timber finishes. I was really impressed by how much detail they requested about the measurements and the existing decor of my home. It seemed like they truly desired the finished product to match seamlessly with the rest of the building. I offered multiple angles in the images I uploaded, making sure each nook was visible. They clarified that the custom type of the unit meant that accuracy was entirely critical to prevent any issues throughout the installation. We went forth and back on potential materials, searching at swatches of laminate and different types of timber patterns. It is surprising how much thought goes into picking the right hardware, like knobs and fittings, which can totally change the feel of the whole construction. I wanted a place where I might easily mix cocktails for guests without needing to repeatedly run back to the kitchen for ice or glasses. The convenience of possessing everything in one spot was the primary driver for this investment. We finalised the blueprint after a brief meeting where all my questions regarding wiring and electric sockets were addressed. I liked that they didn't hurry the planning stage, spending the time to make sure that the depth of the racks was sufficient for my largest glassware. It seemed like a joint process instead than a standard transaction, which is hard to find nowadays.
The fitting date came faster than anticipated, and the fitter was punctual and prepared. He began by placing down safety covers to make sure my flooring remained clean. Watching the parts being unloaded was interesting, as the quality of the materials was instantly obvious. He meticulously checked the levels of the walls before attaching the base structure of the bar. I observed as the skeleton gradually took shape, changing a plain alcove into a functional feature. The level of skill required in scribing the boards to the uneven surfaces of my period house was impressive. He explained how each section fitted in to provide total strength. We wasted a bit of duration deciding on the exact position for the integrated cooler, making sure it was easy to open but hidden away from main sight. The fitting of the counter was the most satisfying moment of the entire day. Seeing the polished surface at last resting on the cabinets made the vision come to life. He then installed the mirrored backsplash, which immediately caused the space to look double the breadth. The lighting were wired next, and testing them for the initial moment was a highlight. The soft light underneath the shelves highlighted the glassware perfectly. I was able to see precisely how useful this would be during evening events. The worker was very careful, taking the time to wipe down each area and clear any dust created during the drilling. He also demonstrated me how to move the racks should I ever wanted to house bigger items. The focus to detail was really exceptional, right down to the sealant beads around the edges. It was obvious that he had great satisfaction in his work, which is always good to witness. We conducted a final inspection of the completed installation to make everything was perfect. I noted that a single knob was a bit wobbly, and he tightened it straight away with a quick turn of a screwdriver. This thoroughness is just what I was looking for when I arranged the job.
The completed area appears completely stunning and has become the focal feature of my home. It provides a classy feel that was formerly missing from my reception room. The storage is immense, enabling me to organise all my spirits, sodas, and fancy glassware in a cohesive unit. No more do I need to rummage inside cluttered cupboard shelves to find a bottle opener or a specific kind of glass. Everything has its proper home, which renders entertaining much more easier and stress-free. I enjoy the way the finishes reflect the light in the evenings, creating a warm atmosphere. My guests have now praised the design several times, with some actually asking for the contact of the people who built it. It really seems like a custom addition tailored exactly for my lifestyle. The elevation of the surface is perfect for standing around with a drink, and the integrated LED units provide just the correct amount of illumination without being too bright. Even when not in operation, it serves as a beautiful item of cabinetry that elevates the whole aesthetic of the property. I used a bit effort arranging my collection on the shelves to make a pleasing arrangement. The mirrored back truly assist in showcasing the bottles and adding dimension to the tight alcove. It has encouraged me to experiment creating new drinks that I before thought were too complicated to attempt in a normal kitchen. Having the sink nearby would have been nice, but the space constraints resulted in we decided against it to preserve storage space. This was a conscious choice we took during the design phase, and I do not regret it. The extra cupboard space for napkins and tools is much more valuable to me in the long term.
There were a couple of minor drawbacks that are fair to mentioning for a balanced perspective. The wait period for the bespoke doors was a little longer than I initially hoped. It lasted about eight days from the first payment to the final installation appointment. While this is understandable for high-quality work, it required a bit of patience on my part. I had hoped to have it ready for a specific event, but we passed that deadline by a few days. However, the communication from the team regarding the progress was regular, so I was never kept in the dark. I rather hold a little longer for a result that is made to last than receive a hasty work that fails after a few years. The start price estimate was also a little lower than the final bill, mainly because I decided to upgrade the hardware and include more internal lights midway through the build. These adjustments were completely my choice, and the company was very clear about the extra fees involved. Another small issue was the amount of packaging left after the install. Although the worker cleaned up the work area well, there was a large amount of cardboard to get rid of in my bins. It was not a big deal, but something to consider if you have limited bin room. Despite these minor details, the total experience was vastly good. The standard of the fit is far superior to anything I might have bought off-the-shelf. It feels sturdy and well-constructed, and I am sure it will withstand years of use. I feel the value it has given to my property well outweighs the upfront outlay. It has changed the way I use my living area, making it much more inviting. I no longer feel cramped when friends come over.
Reflecting back on the entire project, I am truly happy I opted forward with it. The first idea originated from a trip to a neighbour's place in London, where they had a comparable setup. I realised then how greatly it enhanced the flow of the party. When I returned to Reading, I began researching nearby firms and found that going with a bespoke provider was the only route to achieve the precise style I wanted. The chance to pick each element, from the shade of the stain to the position of the power outlets, ensured the final product was exactly as I pictured. I also had a tiny hidden drawer included for storing expensive tools like fancy spoons. This kind of personalisation is what makes the service unique. It did not seem like a generic piece being fitted into a space where it did not fit. Instead, it feels like it has forever been a part of the architecture. If you are thinking about a similar domestic improvement, my tip would be to remain patient and spend the time on the design part. It is far easier to alter a sketch than it is to fix a cabinet once it is built. The expertise provided during the start was crucial in stopping me from doing common errors, such as putting the fridge too close to a radiator. These little details of wisdom are what you pay for when you choose experienced professionals. I am currently planning at different areas of my home to see where further I could add fitted solutions. The outcome of this bar job has provided me the drive to start a bigger renovation in the bedroom later year. It has been a wonderful addition to my daily routine, and I look ahead to numerous seasons of using it with relatives and friends. Finding the right balance between style and use was the aim, and I think we reached it perfectly. The journey from a cluttered alcove to a stylish social hub was well deserving the time and money spent. I today have a space that I am really happy to show off to visitors. Reading has many great venues to visit for a drink, but honestly, I now prefer being at my place and using my own private bar. It provides the identical feel without the crowds or the commute. That itself was worth the whole project. I am very happy with how the lighting works in the night, creating a relaxing environment to relax after a long day at work. It is the small treats like this that render home living so pleasant and fulfilling. I really value the workmanship that went into the finished result. The way the panels shut with a silent get more info thud tells volumes about the build level. No detail was overlooked, and the total appearance is exactly what I needed it would be when I first started this adventure. It is a testament to the talent of the fitters and the standard of the materials utilised. I am a very satisfied customer.
